I think this is a very common problem. Cash games and tourney's VERY different. Even though they are both TX hold em you can;t play both the same and be successful at both. Either stick with what you're good at or use your winnings to improve your cash game. Personally I think the easiest money on the internet right now is Heads up tourney's, but everyone is different.

what i do when i win a freeroll is go to really low stakes tables and do the minimum buy in to start then when i double that i stay there and buy in at another low table. if i doubke both tables i take whatever dollar amount i've won (above the freeroll winnings) and move up a step while still playing the lower table (just one now) if i double at the new level i'll open the 2nd table at that level and get off the 1st level and so on always only playing off winnings never actually touching the freeroll amount except for the buy in and of course if i lose at table #1 i'll buy in once more but if still losing i'll just move along to a different site or something making sure i never really lose more than a buck or 2 at a time.

then of course there is my other method where if i win a freeroll that was private i try to just keep that money set aside for that forum's buy-ins because afterall it's really their money anyway and i feel bad only playing freerolls for a forum and hate ever actually having to deposit.

Best advice is to stick to your strengths in the beginning, if youre not good at cash-game, why play it?? Stick to what works for you, and build your bankroll. Then use a small amount of your bankroll to "educate" yourself in whatever youre bad at.

Biggest problem I see people make when they go from tourny to ring games is they don't make the adjustment of the blinds it is stuck in your mind that you have to play more hands then you really have to play hey the blinds never go up but in your mind you think you have to play or you will get blinded down don't know what causes it but once you get your mind retrained to the blinding you will play better ring game poker. Remember this and force yourself to player fewer hands and it will come tp you.
    Good Luck 8-)

Wow. I am so glad to read this. I am winning some at freerolls then I sit at a buy in table and bam its gone. I do find that if I sit at a .05/.10 they play loose and I loose quicker. The .25/.50 play tighter like me.

I'm kind of the same way but for me I know my problem is that I get bored and play loose.

i have this same problem and i think sometimes when you play micro or low limit poker the player dont seem serious about losing their money so they are going all in with trash and getting lucky. Im going to try to play short stack stratagy wait for the big hand and bet the heck out of it until i win 1 and half my buyin and then get out and start all over

It is important to master the level you are playing before moving up but I agree the micros are terrible at times. .25/.50 is a good serious level for starting out, or at least .05/.10

The good rule of thumb for ring game tables or cash games as some like to call them is you should have at your disposal a minimum of 400 times the BB. ie: you have $200, the max ring games you should be playing are the 25cent/50cent tables.....the reason being is you have to be willing to raise and re-raise all in on one hand......losing your whole stack cannot break you.
