    Default Sleepy?

I think another thing that causes bad bankroll management is being tired. When you play when you are tired you make mistakes you wouldn't normally make. If I have had a hard day at work and am very tired I will not play or will take a hour or so power nap to refresh myself. When I do take a nap I limit myself to only an hour or two of play becuase eventually the power nap will wear off. Hopefully, this will help you guys out.

Great advice Glenn, I find that if I am tired the only thing on my mind is sleep. A 30 minute power nap helps but once we hit 1st break I am done, too tired to go on.

Can't remember if it was brought up in this thread yet but another issue is to never play if you are drunk, those 7 2 offs look like bullets.

I was mostly talking about a cash game. I won't enter a MTT if i am tired. Might enter a SNG if I just got done with a nap. I never play after I had 2 or more drinks. Just thot I would throw that out because a lot of ppl dont think about being tired. I know on sites like stars there are a lot of ppl in the tourney because of there limits of ppl so you really need to take that into consideration. If I have been up for 12 hrs i am not going to play a tourney with 3000 ppl in it. Maybe 400 or 500 according to the buy in. Just my thought. Thanks for giving me your thoughts Chip. I really like this forum just starting out. There is a lot of input and different subjects to give your opinion. Thanks for letting me be a part of it.

Hey Guys I am no Scotty Ngyen. Can't play after too many drinks. Plus don't want to have the attitude he had in the Horse tourney. He really made himself look like an ass even tho he won.

Proper BR management is really key to any online players long term profit.

Here's some rules I set for myself.
Regarding normal speed MTT's and SNG's(I don't play cash)

Don't play with more then 2-3% of BR @ any one time.Usually try to play in 1%-2% range.
Have a stop loss of 9% daily.
Have a stop gain of 6-12% daily.

For Turbo's I cut everything in half

This allows me to play a solid 33-50 times before I would lose my entire BR, and upto 100mark.
Makes sure the games I am playing aren't a great increase in skill from my previous playing.
Stops me from losing a LARGE portion of my BR in one day
Allows me to walk away with a profit. This is flexible, cause if I'm playing good, I'm aiming for the 12% mark. But if I'm playing bad, and happen to get lucky I can still walk away with a bit of profit.

But combined with proper BR management is time management.
I usually try to hit up some time frame each day during the week. If I decide I'm gonna start playing earlier or later in the day, I take a day off to let me adjust my sleep, eat, other RL schedule as needed. Getting your brain and body to know the "grind" is the same each day helps build confidence and comfort.
Stop last registration for MTT's after 4hrs of continues play.
Last registration for SNG's after 6hrs of continues play.

While I fully agree that it's important to set guidelines so you don't put a large proportion of your roll at risk at any one time, a couple other elements are IMO at least as important.

People often talk about such guidelines, but having them becomes less and less usefull as you exercise less self-discipline in sticking to them. That sounds pretty obvious, but how often do you see or hear about pepole playing too high? They're mostly intelligent enough to know it, but they do it anyway.

The other is mainly playing at a level where you have +EV. Again, this may seem obvious to read, but lots of people don't - for which my roll and I are very thankful.

My version of money mgmt is to make a small initial deposit and then i play mainly tournies, with the occasional few minutes at a ring game...but to me a ring game is to easy to lose your money fast even at micro stakes, much better to lose stacks of tourny chips if you gonna lose, lol
