Well, another online poker room goes belly up in the over saturated world of online poker! In an email received today from Wass Poker Support, they have announced the closure of the Merge Gaming Poker room.
In the email, players were told that they would no longer accept real money play and that the room would officially cease operations on 20 August 2010. Just today, as we attempted to log into the online poker room, the software performed routine maintenance and upon completion logging in was not possible.
It should be noted though that the email contained a link to https://wasspoker.mergecashier.com/ where players are able to log in to process a withdrawal provided they have the minimum ($50) bankroll. This is unfortunate to players that are just under the minimum as they can not play to build their bankroll to the minimum level nor are they able to deposit to bring the amount to the minimum.
The official email from Wass Poker:
Dear Player,
Please be advised that a decision has been made by Wass Poker management to discontinue the Wass Poker site and poker software. Effective immediately, we will no longer be accepting deposits or real money play on the site, however you will still be able to make a withdrawal from the cashier by visiting https://wasspoker.mergecashier.com and logging in with your Wass Poker username and password.
Effective 20th of August the site will be closed down completely and you will no longer be able to make a withdrawal.
We hope you have enjoyed playing on our site. If you would like to continue to play poker on the same poker network you can go to http://www.mergegaming.com and select a new site to join
Sincerely,
Wasspoker Management
A visit to the Wass Poker Forum revealed they members of the forum that is tied to Wass Poker had no prior notice of the pending closure of the online poker room.
Rather disturbing to us is the possible number of players that will loose their bankroll that is under the minimum cash out level, this could theoretically be in the thousands of dollars. A more ethical way to handle this would be giving the players that cannot make a withdrawal an option to transfer their bankrolls to another poker room. This has been done many times in the past when a poker room is closed or moved to another network that did not accept US players.
